Play Rug VER

Designed as part of my ongoing personal tradition of creating one meaningful object each year for my daughter’s birthday, this piece takes the form of a play rug VER. Its structure and pattern precisely trace the floor plan of our countryside house, including the placement of key interior elements. Built by her grandfather, the house is where we spend our summers and is a special place for us all.

Reimagined as a tactile landscape, the rug becomes a setting for play – inviting figures and invented scenarios to move through familiar rooms. VER holds a double reference: a new version of play, and the initials of the lake beside the house. Woven by a traditional rug maker, it carries the subtle charm of hand-drawn irregularities, with an extended form on one side marking the steps leading to the terrace.

Made in short-pile yarn with a 50% wool blend, selected for its balanced durability, softness, and hypoallergenic qualities. Woven by Domunique, 1000 × 666 mm.
